AIA NZ is proud to launch AIA Living Specialist and Testing Support (STS), a new entry-level health insurance benefit designed to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for New Zealanders. From 1 October 2025, customers will be able to choose cover that supports faster diagnosis and treatment pathways, without the need to purchase full comprehensive health insurance.
Why STS matters
With the rising cost of living, many New Zealanders are rethinking their private health insurance options. At the same time, public hospitals are facing increased demand, often leading to longer waiting times and delayed diagnoses. STS bridges this gap by offering a flexible and affordable solution that helps people access care sooner.
No other insurer in New Zealand currently offers a standalone specialist and testing cover independent of full health insurance. STS is available as an optional add-on to eligible Life, Trauma, Income Protection, and Total Permanent Disablement insurance under AIA’s Living range (subject to qualifying cover levels).
Key Features of Specialist and Testing Support (STS)
- Specialist consultations: Up to $10,000 per year for visits to cardiologists, gastroenterologists, gynaecologists, and more.
- Diagnostic tests and procedures: Up to $100,000 per year for MRIs, colonoscopies, ECGs, and other tests.
- Obstetric and infertility care: Up to $1,500 after two years of cover.
- Faster access to diagnosis, supporting quicker entry onto public waiting lists if treatment is needed.
- Health screening allowance: Up to $500 (or $750 for AIA Vitality members) every three years.
- Excess options: Choose $0 or $250, giving flexibility to lower premiums while maintaining faster access to care.
